CTC 2019 Keynote Speaker: Richard Susskind

CTC 2019 Keynote Speaker: Richard Susskind
Richard Susskind

One of the world’s leading experts on the colliding worlds of technology and law, Professor Richard Susskind is an author, speaker, and independent adviser to international professional firms and national governments. NCSC is delighted to announce that Professor Susskind will open CTC 2019 with a keynote address that will give attendees a sneak peek at his forthcoming book, Online Courts and the Future of Justice.

More people in the world now have internet access than access to justice, says Susskind. Drawing on almost 40 years in the fields of legal technology and jurisprudence, Susskind will show how we can use the remarkable reach of the internet (more than half of humanity is now online) to help people understand and enforce their legal rights. A pioneer of online courts, Susskind will argue that online courts will displace much conventional litigation. He will rigorously assess the benefits and drawbacks, and look ahead, predicting how AI, machine learning, and virtual reality will likely come to dominate court service.

Professor Susskind is an author, speaker, and independent adviser to major professional firms and to national governments. His main area of expertise is the future of professional service and, in particular, the way in which the IT and the Internet are changing the work of lawyers. He has worked on legal technology for over 30 years, and according to the International Barristers Association, he is the most cited author in the world on the topics of the future of legal services. He lectures internationally, has written many books, and advised on numerous government inquiries. Since 1998, Professor Susskind has been IT Adviser to the Lord Chief Justice of England and Wales. Richard is President of the Society for Computers and Law, Chair of the Online Dispute Resolution Advisory Group of the Civil Justice Council, and Chair of the Advisory Board of the Oxford Internet Institute where he is also a Visiting Professor. In 2000, he was made an OBE (Officer of the Order of the British Empire) by Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II.

Don’t miss Professor Richard Susskind’s sensational opening talk at CTC on Tuesday, September 10, 2019, at the Ernest N. Morial Convention Center in New Orleans.
